Hi Ed,

You are charged exactly once when your data leaves the AWS network.

For the data transfer path that you described in your question, the data is leaving the AWS network en route to the Direct Connect location.

You are ONLY charged for the data transfer costs from the AWS region the data is egressing from to the Direct Connect location it is being transferred to. You are not charged the standard internet egress charges as this data never traverses the internet.
